Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join Riverton Swimming?
Every year we will have try outs at the beginning of the season because of pool spacing. Reach out to coach Powers and he can get you any details that you may need.
Who can join the swim team?
Anyone currently eligible to compete for Riverton High School can join. If you are in ninth grade, not a problem. Come try out, and find a way to get to practice.
Is swimming fun?
Duh. Why else would it be one of the most popular sports in the Olympics? Swimming is more than fun. Swimming is a skill that could save your life or someone else's life. It is a sport that can be enjoyed throughout your life and has many health benefits. It also teaches incredible stress management and team-bonding. We do a lot of team building throughout the year.
Are boys and girls on the same team?
Swimming is one of the few co-ed high school sports. That means boys and girls are on the same team, but you will compete against only boys or only girls.

Will I get to swim in races?
Of course you will swim in races! Every swimmer gets the opportunity to compete against other schools and other teammates. Swimming is cool because everyone gets the opportunity to participate and work together.
Do I have to wear a swim cap?
If you don't, you will have green crunchy troll hair that will fall off when you touch it. In meets, caps are required because how else can we tell who you represent?
Do boys have to wear a speedo?
Speedo is actually a brand name, but the briefs that you think of when you hear "speedo" are optional for boys. We do have things called Jammers that most boys will wear. They look a lot like stretchy bike shorts, but made of different materials.
Can I join if I can't swim?
That would not be safe, but if you know the 4 competitive strokes and feel safe in the water, come and try it!
